Because there are so many questions about the new ITIL certification scheme and the possible transition modalities, we would like to explain what is known so far about the new ITIL 4 certifications.

At the bottom of this certifications scheme we’ve got, as usual, the ITIL Foundation. This will be the same format as in the ITIL v3 (40 multiple choice question in a 1h exam). As soon as Foundation certification is available, we’ll provide accredited ITIL 4 Foundation e-learning on our portal in addition to our open classroom training. There will be no bridging for this Foundation level.

ITIL 4 certifications

Right in the middle are the biggest changes. Instead of the ITIL intermediates, there are now “modules” groupes into two “streams”: the ITIL Managing Professional (MP) and the ITIL Strategic Leader (SL). You may consider the modules as the intermediate certificates in the previous ITIL v3 certification scheme. Each “stream” consists of several modules. In order to become a ITIL Managing Professional, you’ll have to take the three Specialist modules and the Strategist module.

  • ITIL Specialist Create, Deliver and Support
  • ITIL Specialist Drive Stakeholder Value
  • ITIL Specialist High Velocity IT
  • ITIL Strategist Direct, Plan & Improve

For the second stream ITIL Strategic Leader, this last one is the same plus one more module:

  • ITIL Strategist Direct, Plan & Improve
  • ITIL Specialist Digital & IT Strategy

Both streams are necessary to be qualified for the ITIL Master certification. In comparison with the ITIL v3, the ITIL Managing Professional and the ITIM Strategic Leader are at the same level of the ITIL Expert. These certifications will be available in the second half of 2019.

ITIL 4 certifications transition modalities

Do you already have an ITIL Expert certificate or are you currently collecting credits for an ITIL Expert certification in ITIL v3? Don’t panic! There will be a Managing Professional Transition certificate for ITIL experts and for those who have already earned 17 credits in the ITIL v3 track. This qualification will make you an ITIL Managing Professional. So your investments in existing ITIL certifications won’t be lost! Carry on with your track.
All this will be available in the second half of 2019. As soon as the course material is open to the public, 2Grips will bring it to you. We keep you posted!
